Blog Entry: August 16, 2010 Herve Leger Martha E. Nelmes, 87, of James St., Hazleton, died Monday afternoon at St. Luke Manor where she had been a guest. She was born in Hazleton, daughter of the late George and Helen (Keyock) Goach. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Slovak Lutheran Church and was a past member of the Altar guild. Prior to retiring she was a secretary for the Hazleton Area School District. She was a past member of the American Business Women's Association where she was named Woman of the Year. boned corset She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nelmes Jr., in 1973 and the following sister and brothers: Helen Hisak, John Thomas, George and Emil. She is survived by her three children, Howard G. Nelmes III and his wife Gayle, Spartansburg, S.C.; Gilbert R. Nelmes and his wife Heidi, Northbeach, Md.; and Nanci Jane Brown, Collbarn, Colo.; a sister, Ethel Grieder, Allentown; five grandchildren, Matthew and Samuel Brown, Jeffrey, Todd and Jarron Thomas Nelmes; three great- grandchildren Hunter, Grant and Havley; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held noon Saturday from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc. Services at 12:30 p.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 8th and Alter streets, Hazleton, with the Rev. William O'Hara officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and Benfica Lisbon scale relatives may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha's memory to the Pioneer Fire Co. No. 1 would be appreciated by the family.
