Blog Entry: The boss of a Plymouth property letting company says his firm has made more than 100 calls to the city council over a mountain of uncollected rubbish. Full Circle, based at Charles Cross, lets a block of 93 apartments in Constantine Street near the city centre and says residents have been plagued by rubbish for the past five months. Company director James Short said the firm had even called in private rubbish collectors to dispose of refuse. He added that having to make daily calls to the council was 'getting beyond a joke'. The council has admitted a mix-up and sent crews to clear up the mess. Supervisors will be talking to crews to find out what went wrong. Council refuse boss Jayne Donovan has already admitted instances in which the authority has failed customers. Mr Short, who lives in Mannamead, said: "I'm just fed-up with the amount of excuses we've been given. "We've ended up clearing after them ourselves," he said. "I've employed people to clear the rubbish chutes, which have become so full because of the mountain of uncollected waste at the bottom. "We've had people down there bagging up spilt rubbish and clearing areas and we have a storage area overflowing with waste. "We've been inundated with complaints from residents. Someone needs sacking. watches s "It's an absolute joke. As a council tax payer, I'm infuriated." He added that he knew of other properties facing the same problem. The Herald revealed earlier this week that thousands of Plymouth households were to have their rubbish collection days changed. The city council said the move was aimed at ironing out teething troubles that had plagued the service since new collection zones were introduced in November. Over the past two weeks an average of 436 bins a week have been missed, compared with about 200 to 300 in the christian dior handbags week before the new regime was brought in. Mr Short claimed that caretakers had left gates open for over a week awaiting the arrival of refuse collectors, but the rubbish had still not been picked up collected. A spokesperson from Plymouth City Council said: "One of the supervisors spoke to Mr Short to sort this problem out last week, so it's disappointing to find this has still not been resolved. "We understand that the caretakers for these flats don't open the gates until 7.30am and so had asked the crews not to pick the bags up until after this time. "We have just sent our crews out to clear the rubbish. We will be talking to them in more detail to find out what went wrong." Changes to the bin collection days are set to start on Monday.
